Science and Theology News

Science & Theology News was created to meet the growing need for a central voice at the intersection of science and spirituality. The dramatic increase in the number of people working in this area called for a communication vehicle to make scholars aware of each other’s work. Originally titled Research News and Opportunities in Science & Theology, it was launched in the summer of 2000. Published monthly, it has become the clearinghouse for everything that happens in the field.

Science & Theology News continues under the founding editorial leadership of Harold Koenig, director of the Center for Religion and Spirituality at Duke University, and Karl Giberson, professor of physics at Eastern Nazarene College. The publication has grown from its beginnings into a multi-language newspaper, offering readers an overview of the field through book reviews, reports on research projects, interviews, and feature stories.

Readers, including initial skeptics, have come to appreciate the balanced and open way that the publication covers complex and controversial topics like evolution, faith healing, prayer, fine-tuning in nature, and so on. Oxford University’s Regius Professor of Divinity Keith Ward calls Science & Theology News, “essential,” noting that “it is never doctrinaire.”

Editor-in-Chief Harold Koenig notes, “Science & Theology News is first and foremost a newspaper about scientific research. We are careful to get the science right and then explore any spiritual implications of that science.”
Science & Theology News also has an ambitious companion website www.stnews.org that offers the full publication in an online version and web exclusives, including selected articles in other languages: Japanese, Romanian, Italian, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and German.
