National Conference on Religion and Science Expansion
Grant
The purpose
of this project, which ran from 2003 to 2006, was primarily to produce
a college-level textbook in religion and science in Bahasa, for use by
Indonesian universities and colleges. A portion of the grant also funded
teacher training for the use of this text and an accompanying anthology.
Beyond these direct classroom aids, there was a research element to the
project which focused upon emerging researchers and intellectuals in Indonesia
and involved them in intensive workshops in areas such as cosmology, evolutionary
biology, environment, and the use of sacred texts in the science and religion
discourse. It also included an essay contest and a substantial grant to
support a library in science and religion at The Center for Religious and
Cross-Cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
